Who We Are: Backyard Babies, Swedish Rock 'n' Roll Since 1987

· The Band

If you've ever turned up Total 13 until the windows rattled, you already know where we're coming from. Here's a quick guide to who we are and where our sound came from.

Where are we from?

We started in 1987 in Nässjö, a small town in southern Sweden, and we're now based in Stockholm. We first played as Tyrant and became Backyard Babies in 1989. Our sound mixes hard rock, punk and glam, and we're widely credited with bringing sleaze rock to Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia.

Who is in the band?

Nicke Borg sings and plays rhythm guitar, Dregen plays lead guitar, Johan Blomqvist plays bass and Peder Carlsson plays drums. Dregen, Johan and Peder have been here since 1987 (Johan first played rhythm guitar), and Nicke joined in 1989. Our first singer was Tobias "Tobbe" Fischer.

What have we made?

Eight studio albums, from Diesel and Power in 1994 to Sliver & Gold in 2019. Making Enemies Is Good and the self-titled Backyard Babies both went to No. 1 in Sweden. In 2009 we released Them XX, a collection made to mark our 20th anniversary. Our albums post has the full list.

What happened in between?

After touring in 2009 we took a long break and came back in 2014. Four by Four followed in 2015 and Sliver & Gold in 2019. Dregen also plays guitar in The Hellacopters.
